The Titles Of Our Film

The Titles Of Our Film

We choose to keep the titles simple in font but with changes in colour. This was to reflect both sides of the character Jane. The one stood out from the crowd and the one who fit in. The different shades of green was inspired by the word 'Camouflage' and the light and dark elements represented her mood throughout the film.

Crossing The Road Shot

Crossing The Road Shot

We decide to use this shot in particular because of the phrase that was on the bottom of the road. "look right" ; a command telling her what to do whilst also suggesting that she is wrong and must be steered in the right direction.

Barriers Shot

Barriers Shot

We decided to use the barriers shot because it represented the idea of no escape and no way out. Therefore implying that Jane's character wasn't going to be free and had to change. The signs on either side of her also say " no entry" suggesting she's trying to escape from societies control but will not succeed. The barriers on either side of her are open letting others through, showcasing that their are particular requirements to be excepted into society.

The Mirror Alleyway Shot

The Mirror Alleyway Shot

This was an alleyway that Niyika and I found on our research day. We felt like her reflection of insecurity who emphasis societies demands becoming more effective. In the editing stages we used Ken burns to highlight the mirror shot of her fixing her clothing to show how she is trying to subtle and hide her insecurities from the viewer. This creates the impression that someone is always watching you.

Alleyway Shot

Alleyway Shot

This shot was to highlight her isolation and loneliness because of her differences. Presenting the idea that because of her uniqueness she is an outcast from everyone. The Bins on the right imply that because she is not fashionable she is dressed like a "tramp" The door on the left implies that is possible opportunities for her but the door is closed suggesting she hasn't taken it yet.

The words and voiceovers

The words and voiceovers

The voice overs and text symbolise society playing with the character of Jane's mind state. Making her contemplate her lifestyle and whether or not she should change. We also have another voice over when she looks at herself in the Alleyway Mirror shot saying insulting things ultimately meaning she will conform. We choose to have a range of female and male voices to show that Jane is an example of all people & how they are controlled by society.

The Magazine Cover

The Magazine Cover

We decided to have a magazine cover image at the end of the visual transformation because we wanted to show her living up to societies ideology. "most stylish" and "next top model" were phrases that caught my eye as a way to highlight the pressure on identity presented by the mass media. We edited this on photoshop using a template we found and the last still image of the transformation to show how she now fits and blends into modern society.

Visual Transformation ( fashionable)

Visual Transformation ( fashionable)

For this section the costume choice had to juxtapose with the unfashionable costume. Going along the lines of gender stereotypes we choose a skirt, high heels and a jacket to symbolise femininity. However because we wanted this to apply to both genders we used the colours green, white and black which are stereotypically unisex. Also the colours represented the name of the film "camouflage'.

Visual Transformation(unfashionable)

Visual Transformation(unfashionable)

We choose the costume for the unfashionable side to juxtapose with her stereotypical gender role as a female. This section of the film was shot with a still camera in stages. the still camera showed the restriction her movement and the restriction of self.

The Liberty Shot

The Liberty Shot

This was inspired by Niyika and I's trip to Oxford Circus a week before the shoot. Our films aim was to show how society controls your identity. The shop Liberty represented two things... - The idea of freedom from control - an expensive fashion store that is home to designers like Alexander Mcqueen.

Mirror Shot

Mirror Shot

We found out through our research that peoples perceptions of themselves are different from reality. For example how someone sees themselves in a mirror doesn't always show their true emotion. This shot may reflect her body language but if you look carefully her body language is rigid and tight suggesting she is under the control of someone or something. This in comparison to her loose free flowing walk earlier in the film implies that society has morphed her into a particular representation.

Contrasting Colours

Contrasting Colours

We decided to use two different types of shots in the section of the production. This was to reflect the life she had and the life society was showing she could have if she were to conform. The Eyeline match of colourful adverts of the women in a fashionable outfit suggested a life of happiness and fulfillment. However reminded that it is an advert, we compared it to an ideology imposed by society. This juxtaposes with the black and white dull setting or life she had before in the long shot.
