In order to create an effective soundtrack for our film, I have been given permission Erica Procunier a composer for short film to carry out anaylsis on the music score for a short that she composed for a film.

By analysing this score I have learnt that music composed for short film is very repetative that will have a motif that will be heard thoughout the piece. From this I can apply many different techniques into our own composition such as the use of different dynamics and having the music fast paced (Mickey Mousing - parallel scoring); by using the techique of Mickey Mousing it will reinforce the action on screen by using the same rhythms and time signature.
Mickey Mousing
Mickey Mousing is often used in Tom and Jerry, in this episode (Mice Follies) mickey moushing is used effectivle throughout.
This is where the music parallel the action the characters on screen. So when Jerry of walking at a fast pace the music mirrors that the use of a drum roll, flute trill, violin tremelo along with slides to signify that the mouse is uneasy on the ice and is slipping about.
When Jerry and Nibbles are dancing the non-digetic sound is played in legato showing the fluid movements of the figure skating. This contrasts the staccato plucks out the the whiskers of Tom.
